The Trail

The Kamdeboo Adventure Hike is unique a 5-day (6 Night) hike. There are 2 ways to do this:

1. Back packing.
(This route will be different and, more challenging, to be able to get to those hidden gems in the mountains. Sleeping is not always in Guesthouses or in tents, but just outside in the open air under the stars.

2. Slack packing.
Arriving in Aberdeen: The route starts in the “Jewel of the Karoo”: The “City” of Aberdeen: Established in the early 1800s by the Revertant Andrew Murry who was born in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Day 1

19,7km
Start: Aberdeen Town
Finish: Wynberg Guest Farm

From the DR Church, the Hiking challenge will start, and make its way to the mountains with a 19,7Km walk. The route takes us through the private farm of Arno and Lize de Jager, where it will end at the foot of the “Slaapende Reus” (Sleeping Giant) – named after the rock formations visible on the top of the mountain. Here you will be met with typical Karoo hospitality and cuisine by farm owners, Derick and Umelda van Rensburg. Dip yourself in the Rock pool or just soothe your sore feet while enjoying something cold to flush your thirsty throat.

Day 2

21,4km
Start: Wynberg Guest Farm
Finish: Komskloof Guest Farm

From Wynberg to Kom’s kloof Guest farm is a 21,4km Walk-through a privately-owned farm of Roelfie and Marce van der Merwe as well as Ignis and Ilana Verwey. Here, much of the normal farm life could be observed while walking through their fam lands. It is a very strict rule that all gates should be left open (or closed) depending on in what position it was found. (And please – NO LITTERING) At long last, we will be welcomed at Kom’s Kloof guest farm, owned by Grant & Thea Paxton. Take a plunge in the swimming pool and feel all the sore feet disappear…..

Day 3

18,9km
Start: Komskloof Guest Farm
Finish: Middelplaas Guest Farm

From Kom’s Kloof, the road will take you to a very remote part of the Karoo, obscured by mountains and Karoo fynbos, where you will just breathe the presence of our Creator, who designed this wonderful place, with passion and purpose. Somewhere in the mountains we will be welcomed by farm owners Johan and Karen Pienaar who are also farming in their piece of paradise. The day will end at Midlands Guest farm where owners Johan & Maryke Lategan will be welcoming you to their special piece of heaven.

Day 4

19,5km
Start: Middelplaas Guest Farm
Finish: Waterkloof Guest Farm

This is the second last day of the 5-day hike, and after the ups-and-downs- of the previous day, today is an easy flat walk on a farm road to Waterkloof Guest Farm. The walk will be broken up in sections of 5Km each. Every 5Km, you will be served with something to make you forget your sore feet…. 😊 Ending the day at “Waterkloof Guest Farm”, owners Koos and Suzaan Lategan will be your hosts for the next day where your will be shown places and things you never expected to see in a semi desert area, known as the “Karoo”

Day 5

21,5km
Start: Waterkloof Guest Farm
Finish: Waterkloof Guest Farm

Today is going to be a day where you will not need to go to gym. first. No hands and feet climbing needed, but a few up- and- down hills, will keep your concentration muscles exercised. Luckily there will be lots of shade and fresh fountain water to indulge. You will find yourself in a different world. – Most hikers do not want to go back home after this day.
